Yes. It's based on statistics. Statistically, red cars get in more accidents than brown cars or other cars.

Yes. They say it's because people who buy red cars have a more agressive personality & are therefore more likely to speed and more likely to get into crashes. 2 door cars, as opposed to 4 door cars, are more expensive to insure also because they're considered "sporty".

Hi,
Good post. I had some problems with my car after I had an accident. My Insurer wanted to raise my rates $525 a year! I've never even gotten a speeding ticket!
I looked for a new provider and found this website:
http://www.ffrumster.com
They compare all of the major insurance providers and give you the best deal. I ended up saving over $300 from what I was previously paying (that's $825 a year!).
Good Luck

Yes...Statistics show red is the most popular color for sporty cars, bought by younger people. ( who may be inexperienced drivers or male drivers).
Young male drivers tend to drive faster and more recklessly and the most involved in accidents.

In general yes because red cars are a very "flashy" color and are statistically stolen more often than any other color car. I don't think however, it would make your insurance rate much higher.

NO. They are not. Insurance companies don't even ask the color of your car. This is not a means to higher insurance rate, don't listen to all these other idiots that are answering your question based on myth. You were better off doing a search. I tried one on Google (sorry that's my default at work). I posted the URL so you can see for yourself, or just go type in "Do red cars cost more to insure".
The answer, is NO.

no, other color cars like brown get in more accidents then red cars as they are harder to see. insurers don't base the rate on the color of the car. Silver is the safest

I guess it depends on the kind of car and your driving record more than the car's color. but I see your point tho, I guess its because since its red it would get cop's attention quicker. That's why I only do black or any other dark color cars. Thanks for distracting those cops with red cars so we all dark colored cars can speed up! yay!

Auto Insurance Myths & Realities
Insurance rates, as a whole, are based on three key elements: your driving record, choice of car and location. However, there are many facts, tips and information you need to know if you're committed to finding cheap auto insurance.
First of all, you need to understand how car insurance works. The BuyingAdvice team put together a checklist of facts and fiction to test your auto insurance knowledge. So, what do you think, is it a car insurance myth or reality?
1. Cheaper cars cost less to insure - Myth. Although it is true that more expensive cars pay higher rates because they are more expensive to replace, cheaper small cars aren't as safe, so they pose a bigger risk. The more safety features you add to a new car (which also raises its price), actually lowers your insurance rates.
2. Comprehensive coverage insurance protects you in all situations - Myth. It is only one type of insurance and it just covers damage caused in events other than collisions, such as fire, theft, vandalism and weather-related incidents. It does not cover contents of a car, tires or any part of the vehicle damaged by a mechanical breakdown, rust or an explosion within the combustion chamber.
3. Car insurance for young drivers is more expensive - Reality. Statistically, young drivers have more accidents, so car insurance companies usually charge higher rates to drivers under 25. However, if you have a lousy driving record, there's no chance you'll score any savings regardless of your age.
4. Buying different types of insurance from the same car insurance company saves you money - Myth. Although it may be true in some cases, as a general rule it doesn't give you cheap auto insurance by default. Sometimes brokers may be able to get you better deals from competing companies.
5. Car insurance for women is cheaper - Reality. Women tend to be safer drivers, however, age is also a factor. Men and women may pay the same insurance rates after age 30.
6. Red cars are more expensive to insure - Myth. Insurance companies don't ask what the color of your car is when giving you a quote and your VIN doesn't give that information. Color doesn't factor in at all.
7. Residents of big cities pay more for car insurance - Reality. In bigger cities you have more chances of your car getting stolen. Driving conditions and the number of drivers around also affect your premiums. The most expensive cities to purchase auto insurance in are New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Miami, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
8. Speeding tickets affect my rate - Partly true. If you've only had one ticket in your entire life or if it's been more than ten years, then, as far as the insurance company is concerned, it's long forgotten. You're entitled to one mistake. However, if you get pulled over for speeding more than twice, then yes.

Depends on the insurance company, but this is why:
They attract more attention, so you're more likely to get tickets AND to get hit by drunk drivers. Sometimes drunk people hit the most noticeable object they're trying to avoid by focusing on it too much. Weird, huh?

Dumb people keep answering this question wrong! I am a licenced insurance broker, registrations agent and driver licence issuer. When you come to me and get a quote for a vehicle, I do not ask the colour, BECAUSE IT DOESN:T MATTER! i do not need the colour until you actually register and insure the car.
Now if you get a quote on a blue 2002 Chev Malibu, then come in to insure a red 2007 Chev Corvette, that is a different story.
I drive a red car, it is a 2-door with a spoiler and custom wheels, and I have not been pulled over since I bought it, but then I drive like a human being, not a goffball showoff, and I do not pay a premium for the colour red.

I don't know if this is true but i've heard that red cars are more prone to accidents so maybe thats why the insruance is more, I know that you have a metalic colour car is expensive because if you have an accident and damage your car your whole car will have to be resprayed as you cannot get a colour match .
