No it's not fair. Fair is where you buy a corny dog, my friend.
Nothing in life is fair. Where on earth did you get the idea that it would be?

It doesn't seem fair...but I suppose the government has to have some boundaries over how many people they let in otherwise we're going to get too overcrowded far too soon...

my mate had this problem - it's because thiland is not an ex commonwealth country. immigration is much easier for them
on the plus side, if she lives with you in the uk, she is classed as 'no recourse to public funds' therefore on paper you will look like you look single - and are entitled to more tax credits!

What has WWII got to do with you bringing a Thai girl to the UK?
And why mention what the Japanese did to prisoners in WWII?
Do you just hate the Japanese? Or do you now hate the UK also?
Why don`t you live over there?

if youintend to marry then she should be applying for a fiance visa to enter UK on the basis of your relationship to marry. I do not understand why you are being refused. You must be doing something wrong. I regularly present such applications for clients with success. I am a UK immigration solicitor with 17 years experience of such applications. Contact me if you wantto discuss your problem.

unfortunately for you it is fair, every one of those immigrent 'burdons' as you called them has resons like yours for wanting to be in a better country but if you look at every case like that they could all come and the truth is that would make our econamy terrible as well...

I have a friend who works in the Foreign Office. He told me (I have an Iranian girlfriend) that the immigration officers at the embassies can be as racist as anyone else and that although some are ok...other are complete bastar*s!
He advised me that when the time comes to bring my girlfriend over, for her to come on a tourist visa. I am free to marry her here and though they might make us go back to America (where she lives) for a couple of months, there is nothing they can do to keep her out.
She is an Architect by the way...so she earns far more than these grubby little civil servants!

I know how you feel. British immigration rules can suck. I have lived in the UK for a few years as a child and then seven years as an adult. I paid international fees (£24 000) to get my law degree here. I have been involved in lots of community work, volunteering etc and have never been a burden on the state but when my visa expires next year it looks like I will be sent back to Zimbabwe. it seems like I am being punished for not falsely claiming asylum or paying someone for a fake marriage or something dodgy.
the only way I can get a visa to stay here is if I get a job which 'has been advertised and I have skills none of the EU or UK applicants had' and one interviewer told me frankly companies do not want the hassle of applying for a work permit and would rather take someone less qualified and avoid the fuss.
I have lived in the UK for over 10 years in total and contributed to the economy but since I will not manipulate the system I will be sent to starve in Zimbabwe.
Life seems really unfair sometimes, even moreso if the british home office has anything to do with it.

as far as you can tell it's not fair, but it's not proving you love her, it's proving she loves you. the government might look like a bunch of useless muppets, but they know the majority of these cases, the woman (or man) is just looking for free and easy entry to the UK.
ask her if you should live in Thailand. live there together for 24 months, and then reapply

I understand your point about the wars.
I seems that the Government just likes to make friends with enemy's and just piss everyone Else off.

yes it is fair, immigration rules are there for a reason, to prevent mass immigration for no good reason unless it's for work or marriage. 'Girlfriend' is not a status.
Go live in Thailand if you're so distraught

I suspect it is because the authorities are so used to Thai brides being imported and once they are resident here the relationship break down irretrievably.

Are you thinking of getting married, that may be a better way. bit l do sympathise with you.Try again and take ant intimate letter that you may have written to each other, that help me, to prove that she was tje love of my life . But Try again .and good luck

Kinda unfair to have a pop at Germans or any other members of the EU!
I agree with the above posters...marriage will ease the immigration route.

Ok, i'll give you a hint - GET MARRIED.
It will still take time but you are much more likely.
That is why they call them mail order BRIDES as they have to be the wife to come over to the UK.
Germans can come over more freely as they are part of the EU, Thailand is not.
Maybe it isn't fair... but why don't you go over to Thailand instead if you love her so much?
I completelyy agree about a lot of english people being a burden on the state, but it seems it is gradually becomming harder to suck up benefits.

no i don't think it's fair. Your girlfriend wants to come over here and work and they wont let her, but we let all these illegals stay here once they are caught and they live off the social.
i don't know how to help you but it seems like some people on here are giving you good advice.
good luck
