Why are Americans like this (please don't get angry, it is an honest Q. out of personal experience)?
|
When a white person from Canada or Europe says that he/she is planning to move to America, then everyone welcomes the person and speak positively.
Whereas if an Asian or Latino person says that he/she is coming to America, then hardly anyone welcomes the person & I notice some people who pass comments like "get out of my country" and "you didn't find a better place to go to other than ours?" etc.
Why is this so? Why do I see very few American people welcome Asians or Latinos to their country, but if the person is a caucasian then their response is completely different?

Let's get something straight. This is NOT an "honest question." You might be reporting your personal experience and that's fine. But you're overgeneralizing based on your limited experience and you're putting it out as truth, which it is not.
So your question is the very opposite of an honest question. It's intellectually dishonest and manipulative. That said, it does not make me angry. I want to thank you for pointing yourself out as so ignorant... it's good to know which people have bad intentions.
So how about YOU just stay home, regardless of your ethnicity? Because it's YOU we don't want with your nasty attitude. Thanks, doll! :D

Why is it that you people are so bias. Why is it that is impossible for you to understand who we the Americans welcome to the USA and who we just won't. This have nothing to do with white or Asian or what ever. This is about who is invading our country and where is that invasion coming from. If the invasion come from Europe, Russia, Canada, etc. it will be the same results, NO! Look I'm an American and a Hispanic, so please don't be so naive or should I say ignorant. All illegals aliens have to go..

Most Americans welcome LEGAL immigrants of any color, as long as they are willing to learn to speak English, and assimilate at least somewhat into the American culture, and they don't attempt to try and violate our first amendment rights by demanding that we follow Sharia religious law, or follow it themselves and ignore our laws.

I am asian and I ve been welcomed by people of all races here although I am born here, please stop judging this country becuase of some ridiculous movie you may have seen. Why in India are you arrested for being Christian? Do you know about the racially based caste system destroying your country? You have the gall to point out racism here??!?!?
Answer that sweetheart.
I am East Indian (perhaps like you) and have always been welcomed by more white peple than hispanics or blacks. Both blacks and hispanics like to isolate themselves from everyone claiming racism and the only ones they are hurting are themselves. Most American whites arent racist. Race is a primary issue for Hispanics and blacks.

Look at the sheer numbers of illegal aliens who are of Hispanic descent who think nothing of sitting on our welfare records looking for all sorts of help, stealing id's & numbers to obtain work but then either spending most of their $ on liquor or sending it back to 'their country' conveniently forgetting that this became their country when they got here. Then they go & demand to have their holidays, language and everything else acknowledged and put on the same level of importance as historical holidays here. Most of the people in this country are from immigrant families who endured hardship but did so legally in this country. They also worked hard to assimilate themselves into their new culture and be productive members of society.

Because of a couple of reasons - you could take them or leave them but this is my perception.
1) Mexicans and Aisians come here in a dis-proportioned number-- out weigh the immigrants from Europe
2) I have never ever heard of Europeans demanding that we speak German or Polish ect..ect..
3) I have never heard of Europeans stomping in the streets waving their national flag and demanding rights.
When you force something on people there is a human nature to resist. When the blacks were freed that didn't go over very well in the south, so guess what club was established. Hint, it begins and ends with a K.

i think it reflects were you move too. California welcomes alot of races but still has hate in some of or area. We elected a Latino as mayor but still have people that hate people coming over illegally. I married a Japanese women but still live with the fact that people think she cant drive. Its stereo types, the same I dealt with when I went to Hawaii as a white man. The same as I delt with in Paris. It is hard coming to a new place in the world, new religion, new language, new culture. There are great places to be in Japan, but also hard to fit in, as I know. Not everyone in the US is bad, most are not. But like in my travels some bad apples can spoil the tree. The french are more welcome in Canada than Americans. Americans are more welcome in Tijuana Mexico than Spaniards. Americans are more welcome in Japan than Chinese. You can never make 100% since of a new culture, because its new, you can only hope you can understand it so you can adapt.

Where are you getting this information.? You write this as it's been your personal experience, which I tend to doubt as being true.
I am over 80 years old, been around this country from border to border, east to west and north to south, talked to thousands of people and have yet to see the so-called experience you're trying to put forth. Just what kind of job do you have to put you in such an environment where you can make such statements, and be honest?

Some of it might be racism, but some of it is nationalism. Asians and Latinos have deep roots in their culture. They come here and not only look different, but they also try to change the county. Many refuse to learn the language, some demand that tax dollars pay for education in their languages. Rather than trying to fit in, they group together and form their own neighborhoods and cities.
If they want to be Americans, then be Americans. If they want to move their race or nationality here, then DONT. Stay where they are and fix their country.
Canadians that come here have a similar culture and want to be Americans. They don't try to turn us into lower Canada.
Come live the American dream, NOT the Mexican or Asian dream in America.

Please don't get angry but here is your answer.
The response toward Asians is that the Japanese which attacked our country in 1941 and we defeated in 1945 and we rebuild their country after the war and gave them the technology to rebuild their country are 3 years ahead of us-in technology decided to step on lots of toes and buy up all the property in the US that they could.
As far as the Latino go most of them come here illegally and decide they are going to live off of the US taxpayers by collecting all the free services they can get.And the hardworking taxpayer like me cant go to college cant collect unemployment welfare or anything I am entitled to because they have used it all up and they aren't even citizens.

Sadly and unfortunately too many people in America are racist and seem to think they are better than others. There is good and bad in all races, and I refuse to categorize people into race categories.
I think as an American we should welcome those who come here legally in a pleasant manner, and be accepting. I however, cannot speak for everyone.
Sorry for the treatment you have received.

Because never before have we been asked to push a button for the language we speak. Never before was it a requirement to be bilingual to work at a fast food restaurant. Its changing our country to the point that nobody can ignore it or even accept it naturally.
We have always expected that immigrants would learn English and become Americans. There was just never a question about it before. The melting pot isn't melting anymore. I honestly don't think people of other countries have an easy time with it either in the first generation of its occurrence anyway.

Because we want diversity and we've been getting more of the "minority" groups that you've mentioned lately. We need other groups now.
And you know something, not to sound racist and all, but I am getting tired of hearing Asian and Latino people who become citizens here continually say "In my country" and go on to say something about the country they came from. That isn't their country anymore, the USA is. Yet this is just part of their attitude, that the USA isn't really their country and that they shouldn't have to conform to it and its laws in any way they don't choose to. This usually isn't the attitude of other races like Canadians or Europeans.
Additional: For the person who quoted the tablet on the Statue of Liberty, I would suggest you learn something of it's history. That was a gift from the French, and it was they who put that engraving and those words on it, not us. Nobody ever said that was out motto.

Don't call me stereotypical, but this is a stereotypical thing to say, but I believe it is the reason.
Most Latinos or Asians that come here are poorer and cause a lot of crime (mostly drug related). It is really because of illegal immigration.
This wasn't meant to insult anyone. But actually, I haven't heard as much negativity towards Asians.

I'm sorry that you have encountered so many morons. But they exist all across the world.
Unless you can pose as a caucasion, then I'm not sure why you think it is so different for them as it has been for you. I personally find racism against Canandians as well. I think it is a general distaste in this country for foreigners all across the board. Unfortunately, there is a huge problem with illegal immigrants and it's making it difficult for legal ones as well.
I still think anyone that would give a legal immigrant a hard time is a moron, but you have to understand the environment and politics that are going on in this country as well.
My husband's family is Puerto Rican (I know they are legal citizens of the US by birth, so not quite the same). They haven't encountered very much of what you speak of. So I'm wondering what parts of the country you have been to.
I do believe you are reading more into things than is really evident.
There is also the fear factor. Humans in general tend to gravitate toward familiarity. You feel more comfortable and thus act more at ease around people that are similiar to you. I saw it all the time when I taught school. No one has to force groups to segregate, they do it naturally. No one has to teach fear to a child they start to experience it on their own around the age of six or so. They notice differences more and become apprehensive.
Are you totally comfortable around all other races and nationalities? Would your family approve if you became involved with a foreigner? Would they be apprehensive? Can you comfortably approach anyone at any time in any situation? Just asking.
Don't take it to heart and when you encounter someone like you mention, disregard them and move on. We all have had to tolerate and overcome racism, unfairness, or prejudice in some form. Some of us don't let it affect us and some of us whine, cry and dwell on it. You can't be a success in this country if you are thin skinned.
Good luck!!!

I'll answer you honestly, Asians tend to keep to themselves. And right now we see Latinos coming here and wanting our country to change to accommodate for them instead of their learning our ways. Recently in my northern state people were turned down for jobs because they couldn't speak Spanish. This angers a good many Americans, as does waving the Mexican flag instead of the American flag. It is an out and out threat. Most of us still remember grandparents who came here and had to learn the language and the ways of their new country. And they did, the new immigrants want us to offer English as a second language, and other easy ways for them, ways our own families didn't have. They don't seem to want to be Americans, they want to use America. And that's just not going to fly.

I think you are misinformed. We love immigrants, we hate ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. If the first act upon entering our country is to break the law, we don't want you. But if you come here legally, we don't care where you are from. In fact, Asians and Latins run a lot of U.S. businesses and Asians do a lot of teaching at the college level here. It's criminals we don't like.

Actually we are not like that. If a latino or asian comes in legally, we have no problem, this country welcomes them. We get mad at the 20 million illegal immigrants who feel they are entitles to free healthcare and free education, like they are better than other immigrants. We are even madder at our lawmakers for letting them get free healthcare and free education.

Not all white people are so welcomed- Canadians, French, and especially French Canadians can attest to that. If you actually look like the picture in your profile, it may be less the color of your skin, and more the shape of it that encourages warm greetings. Hot girls from everywhere are always welcome in America.

I can't really answer your question because I've never personally seen that happen.
(and I know I'm gonna get a lot of crap for this)..But whether we like it or not, America is a very judgmental country. We have segregated ourselves so much, and while pride is good I feel we have all become dangerously defensive over ourselves, our groups, etc. This has caused us to, whether consciously or sub-consciously, judge everybody and unfortunately, race is the first (and biggest) stereotype we make.
I don't know about Asians, but obviously Latinos in this country have a very negative stereotype (because of the whole illegal immigration issue. Many people believe that all Latinos are illegal).
I'm just calling it the way I see it.

I can't speak for everybody but I myself welcome any legal immigrant. I admire anyone with the courage to journey to a foreign country with hopes to make it. I don't however appreciate illegal immigration. It strains our economy and resources, they do the jobs that citizens and legal immigrants could be doing and do it for much cheaper making it so that we can't compete. The US is a great country, people need to earn their way not cut in front of the people waiting to do it legally.
