I see the same examples where i work, i think its because the company is afraid of being called racist, or company's get cash incentives to employ/train foreigners.

I presume you are in the UK. And while we are in the EU these things will keep happening. I'll only vote for a political party that want to leave Europe.

Just say to yourself that the job wasn't meant. Do you really want to work somewhere where the people mess you around like that? I'm sure you've more self respect than that.

What happened is that your company chose the Polish girl on the grounds of her work ethic. A lot of Anglo Saxons think they are the world leaders when it comes to the work ethic based upon the Protestant notion of hard work and thrift.
I have worked with Poles and have found them in most cases to be the hardest workers I have ever known. One Polish guy I know thinks that the working day is 12 hours long with a half hour break at the six hour point.
I will not say more on this but just point you to the issue of religion. Your boss may very well have more in common with this Polish girl [age not a consideration] than you think.

You should have got the job because you have been loyal for 7 years. Your Boss might be sexist or she felt sorry for the employee.

I know why they like Polish workers. I don't want to offend anybody, there must be some good Poles there as well, but I just found out from experience with working with hundreds of Polish people that they tend to make a lot of effort to be liked by their bosses. They put such an act of pretending to be hard-working and reliable workforce, which is in most cases is just that, facade, when the boss is around. Never mind all the back stabbing and bad mouthing, bosses will never find out about that. Polish people are not stupid to let their true opinions and feelings to be known to the people on whom they depend.

you have been very un fairly treated.if your work was good enough for the last six years then its good enough to put you on the promotions ladder. if your work wasnt good enough you should have been told. you werent .so you must be ok. i am not happy that polish people are taking over and working for less. we, where i work, have lost our overtime rate thanks to the polish workers. im not happy

I wouldn't say it was racism or the fact she is female. Sometimes within a company, the big boss thinks that getting someone new into a position, who doesn't know people is better. I had a supervisor who was a normal employee one day and then he was made a supervisor, he found it very hard to adjust as people treated him as a friend before, he would give a direct order and people would do as they wanted. In the end he had to leave because people stopped showing him respect and he was doing the majority of the work himself because he couldn't cope with the way his so called 'friends' changed towards him and treated him like an outsider when he gave an order, even though he'd been working for the company a very long time with most of these people and knew his job very well.
If you really want to enter the management area then I would suggest going to a different company.

oh yea blame the polish yea its all their fault for coming over to find a better life here she got it because she works harder than you. God, my Granddad did not go to war frightened half to death just so that people like you can go and whine at eastern Europeans for being harder workers. Also shes probably been working all her life in this kind of business.

Lots of conclusions jumped to in the Answers here.
Has it not occurred to you that the Polish woman was better at the job than you? (btw, giving her the job because of her nationality would be illegal)

Perhaps she is the right person for the job ?
Ask for a discussion with the interviewer as to where you weak points were.
That way you will have a better understanding of the situation.
Good luck
Perhaps being Polish has nothing to do with it

Where I previously worked, in the space of three months, my ex-employer employed 8 Polish people and gave them all 60 hour weeks earning less than minimum wage. At the same time, all the English staff suddenly found that their hours were reduced to 16 which prompted us to look for other jobs. Needless to say, many of us reported him but as far as I know, the Polish people still work there.
Dispute it with your boss by all means but be prepared to look for another job - I'm afraid you have no hope against cheaper workforce being exploited by money-grabbing companies.

That's one of the hidden policy agendas of this country and the main stream political party's tactics of keeping you down. To undermine the traditional working classes claiming it to be skill shortages.

It is all about money and control. She was cheaper, will always do as she is told regardless of her own personal rights and that's what employees want. No, it is not fair but it will continue as long as there are people like this Polish women who will tolerate any injustice just to have the job.

I'm sorry to hear about this. Of course, the fact that you've worked there so much longer doesn't mean that you are automatically better qualified, but still it doesn't sound good. One point is that, the selection process can't have been very open - they must have given the job before looking sreiously at other applications. Unfortunately this is often the case, I'm sure we've all applied for jobs from the paper, only to realise that the job had already been earmarked for someon, and the ad was just for form. This is the kind of practice that usually works against minority groups and outsiders.
Anyway, if anyone is at fault here, it's the employer not the Polish woman. This isn't a matter of race or immigration, but of fair employment and recruitment practices.
I can only suggest that, if you feel you are qualified/experienced enough to do a higher level job, start applying with other companies!
Good luck!

Seems that way....but perhaps they have a motive in this. See if in a fews weeks time lots of you get paid off then you know that your employer intends to employ cheap labour by way of using polish migrants...this women can speak the language you can't.
Start looking for another job!

People will say I am racist, but she got the job because she is a woman and she is Polish. Bottom line and you know that too. My belief is the most qualified person who has been at the job longer, should get the job. But that is not always true.
