Call Welfare agency collect...I'm sure they'll accept and then apply for US Welfare and get a huge check in the mail with free food vouchers.

the embassy is a good route to go. though you can also toss your passport, go to a police station and tell them you there illegally or anonymously report yourself :) to get deported in most countries.

Get a job.
Pay ALL the money that the U.S embassy tells you that they need in order for them to get you to come back.
But why come back?

You go to the US Embassy or Consulate and they will find a way for you to get back home, but they won't pay for it. You probably have to find someone to send you money from home, or have them open a credit card for you and use it just that once.
Next time, use traveller's checks.

Claim to be the killer in an unsolved murder of a child. You will be flown back first class, given a three course meal, and have a personal escort.
Whoops...that was already done by that wacko Kerr guy!!!
Thanks for the 2 points.

get in touch with the nearest consulate. They will help, they have been known to arrange for duplicate tickets from airlines, and they'll let you use the telephone to ask for more $ from family. They also help out with stolen passports and visas.

Go to the US Embassy in the country where you were robbed. It is the duty of the diplomats to help its citizens in other countries.

Surely you've seen the traveler's checks and credit card ads? If Amex hasn't any branch or correspondent in the country where you are and you've had your Amex checks stolen, they will send you money via Western Union. Or they will send you a credit card via FedEx.
Money can always be wired to you. If all else fails, the State Department can wire it, but perhaps more bureaucratically and less efficiently than banks, travel agencies and credit card issuers.
One can get a repatriation loan from the State Department but it's not easy or quick. Somewhat more easily you can get a temporary passport to enable you to return home. A permanent one can be made up later in the U.S.
Of course you have to identify yourself somehow. But it's all been done before by others; they're used to it.
