Renewal of passport requires another set of photographs but the requirements are not that many anymore.

I helped my mum renew her passport a month ago. You need to include photographs yes, but you do not need to get them signed UNLESS your appearance has changed significantly during the previous ten years.

This was before her passport expired though - you can apply up to nine months beforehand. If your passport has expired then the situation could be different and could be classed as an entirely new application, in which case the photos would need to be signed.

Read the information leaflets when you fill in the form, and if you are in any doubt at all, then I'd get your photos signed just in case.

Go to the uk passport website it gives you all the details. you can even apply on-line for a renewal. you only need new pictures if you've changed much in the last 10 years.

You need new passport photos and they are very strict now on the appearance of them (e.g. you can't be showing any teeth).

Where I live there is a shop called Supasnaps who offer a passport service and charge £5. This ensures that they are the right size etc.

You shouldn't need them to be signed if you are renewing your passport, you will need to send your old passport with the renewal form.

I did this last year - they advise you to get new photos if your appearance has changed in ten years (whose hasn't?) but they are really specific about what is acceptable in the new photos (it's worth spending time getting it right before you first send them - guidelines come with the forms).

I'm not sure whether you have to get them signed again though. I think it's only necessary if your appearance has REALLY changed (for example, at the same time as doing mine I had to renew my daughter's who was 6 months old in her first photo, and 6 years old in her next).

You'll definately need to get new photos. The rules on how a persons picture must look have changed in the last 10 years and have become more pernickety. I'd get a list from the post office - I think your hair has to be off your face, you can't be smiling, and you can't have a coloured background are just a few of the points.

The list should also tell you if you need to have the photos signed.

Details of what you need for renewal can be found at:

http://www.passportsplus.com/ukpassport.html?OVRAW=uk%20passport%20requirements&OVKEY=uk%20passport&OVMTC=advanced

I looked over it and you do need new photos but it didn't mention the letters unless you are under 18.

You local major post office will supply the forms which contain all the information you need including the type of photo they want. The cost for renewal is now £66. The P.O. offer a checking service for £7. I suggest you avail yourself of this as the Passport Office will return the form to you on the slightest pretext.

You only need a confirming signature if "your appearance has changed so much that it would be difficult to recognise you from the photo in your current or last passport". Quote from the passport office.

Yes you do need new Passport photographs. Go to your nearest Post Office and ask them for a UK Passport Renewal Form. Fill this in, get the necessary signatures etc., then back to the PO and have them 'fast track' it through the system for you.

For Passport renewal there is a time limit so do not delay in renewing your existing passport.

If you want it done really fast and if you're in London, go to the passport office in Petty France, nearest tube station, St.James's Park [District and/or Circle Line], one stop before Victoria coming from Westminster.

If you buy or renew an existing passport in year 2007, it will remain valid until 2017. You will not be required to have a National ID card [when they start] until after your new passport expires. That's ten years grace.

Anyone who has never had a UK passport, will be required from April 2007 to have a one-to-one face-to-face meeting with an official at the passport office.

You need new photos - but don't need them authorised again unless you now look very different than 10 years or so ago. If you take the form and photos to the post office they check them all for approx £5 - so at least you know all will be okay
