Well..
I know living in Britain under Labour is total hell....that is why I chose to take a gamble and immigrated to Spain instead....
But defecting to North Korea sounds a bit harsh and an act of total desperation no offence.

It is yes, although whether you would want to is another matter...so saying I bet the cost of petrol is cheaper...Anyway, there have been cases where various Japanese/South Korean people have defected to North Korea, even in recent years

why on earth would you want to defect to North Korea? do you realize what you are saying?
first of all, to enter North Korea, it is not easy as a loner, visa are usually given to tourist group, faster than individual,
when you defect? do know that to get out? i think it will be forever......
if you have committed anything that bad to want to defect to North Korea? if it is the case that indeed, you have done something that bad? it will be known before you enter, and if ? they let you in?

It is remarkable how many have read this question and yet not understood it.
The questioner does not ask if HE can defect to North Korea, but whether ANYONE could.
A UK citizen does not have to have, or give, a reason for leaving the country. Neither does a UK citizen have to present a passport to leave the country, or even have a passport. A passport is not a permission to leave.

Certainly, though regardless of what you think you have to offer North Korea, you would always be treated with hostility and suspicion, or worse once your value was considered to be reduced to zero. And leave which country? North Korea after you defected? Highly unlikely unless if fit neatly into something they wanted to achieve.

Try and board any aircraft, ship or train bound out of the UK.
Of course you need a passort to leave the country and yes if you are leaving the country you are required to carry a valid passport

Sure, but why would you??? Several American soldiers did during the Vietnam Era and were persecuted by the North Koreans for doing so. One soldier finally left to be with his Japanese wife a couple years ago after much political pressure from the Japanese Kim Jong II finally let him go. The rest of the Americans died there after "re-education". It wasn't what they thought it would be.

What a great idea. How come no one else has thought of this?
Im surprised there isnt a steady stream of defectors to such an open, welcoming, progressive, innovative, exuberent, generous and caring country where the world is your oyster.

It is possible to defect to anywhere.
If they let you stay is another matter.
Also ask yourself can I get back in?
