Don't listen to some of these dumbass answers. Best bet for you is to go on the US Embassies website and get your answers from there..or call someone at your nearest US embassy office. I do think that it might be a long process but its worth a try. But I definately wouldnt want to go and live in the US..its so over-rated. I'd rather you stay in the UK or come here to Canada. The process here is so much tolerant and it doesnt take that long...plus its the same Commonwealth country.

if your a UK citizen, why would you want to immigrate to the U.S.?
Your UK passport is much more valuable than the U.S.'

I would never leave the UK especially for America. Americas power is coming to an end. The EU is more powerful than America.

if you have the new barcode passports you can stay in the US for 90 days and not have to apply for any visa. On the old passports you have to apply for visas...which may take time. I advise putting your CVs on monster.com, or maybe fly out here first and look for jobs. The employer becomes your sponser so they have to file paperwork for you also, before you can work. You'd probably get work easily, they love the Brits over here, contrary to that tosser's comments up there! Good luck my dears!

Short of becoming a illegal. You can start by looking at the link to the INS below.
After you get the information you require I would suggest you contact a good immigration attorney. It is more than possible but it does take time. Good Luck

It actually isn't hard to get a works visa or leave to remain in the US for British Citizens, but residence and citizenship are much harder. There is alot to read. I thought about it once for a while, but decided against it. I like the UK too much! But really, it is a lengthly, and sometimes even costly process with legal fees etc. Also America does not allow dual nationality for any children etc, but the UK will. Why not retain your citizenship and go and work in the US? Lots of people do that!
