People are just like that. Some people just have no respect and some don't realize that they are doing something wrong. It life and we have to deal with it. I would have let her and anyone else know that they should have been raised better and they should know better. Educate them on how saying things can hurt someone's feeling and maybe JUST MAYBE they'll get it!

It is natural for people to be curious of what they don't know. In their desire to know more, they sometimes temporarily forget social courtesies and will only realize that they have been rude when they recall the incident later. Analyzing the facts you have laid out, it seems that these adults you are referring to temporarily forgot that it is rude to ask such questions in front of your adopted sister. Look at the bright side: they might consider adopting children themselves, and hence, help more children like your sister have a brighter future.

I think its time for you to become as bllunt as they are. just say with respect you are awfully ignorant. Or say no actaully my mother birthed her. You almost have to make them seem as dumb as the sound.
I wish I could remember that saying
somthing like you 'll forgive me for not answering you and I ll forgive you for asking.
sorry you are dealing with this

Simple things amuse simple people.... Just say she's worth more than they'd ever be, and that shes your sister. Some people probably don't even realize they are being rude, they might really want to know, because they are thinking about adopting or are just curious... but yeah.. idiots all of em.

dumb questions = dumb responses.
"did you adopt her?" = no, we cloned her or no, the space ship left her behind.
"how much did she cost?" = the Bible says the blood of Jesus and she has been paid in full. (not a dumb response but a true one)
Come up with some unique answers to let them know their questions are unwanted and RUDE.

I'm sorry both you and your sister have to experience such rudeness. I would give them a super icy stare and coldly ask them "Why would you ask me that?". Because really - why would they ask you that?! Just stare at them after that like they have two heads until the slink away, and if they keep asking, just walk away. I'm sick of people excusing the rudeness and nosiness - especially when it hurts children. Getting off my soapbox now.

A good reason why more and more people avoid large public places in my opinion. Including myself. I would urge you - should you continue to experience this behavior - to give it right back and let the person know how ridiculous the question is.

Like someone else said... that little girl is lucky to have you and your family.

People can be idiots. They seem to have no filter between their brain and their mouth. It's normal to be curious about things that are new to you, but there are better ways and better times to ask such questions. If people continue with these rude questions, I would point out very bluntly that they are being rude. Hopefully that will shut them up. Hope it gets better!

~ ignorance, lack of manners, make people ask questions and the most inappropriate times,,,,,if these are strangers just comming up to you and asking,,,,tell them straight out that they are being rude and walk away,,,if this is friends and family,,mabey they truley would like to know more about your sisters heritage but just dont know how to ask,,,so they think asking a general question will open the conversation,,,,,,

Some people are just plain ignorant. It's a fact of life. But there are a lot of decent people out there too, so don't give up on humans. Congratulations on your adopted sister. I've heard a lot of red tape and time is involved in such a process.

Because they have personal issues and they take them out on other people and they learned to act this way from a generation of relatives that acted that way your children act the way they see you act if you are rude your children act rude.

they are rude because they do not understand why somebody would want to devote their live to a child that is not biologically there's. It is wrong and I understand my dad adopted me when I was a year old. after him and my mother got married. They always asked my dad questions like she doesn't look like you she must take after her mom, and she is so light skinned compared to you and your wife is she yours. He is Hispanic. And I am very white so you see. Just make your sister feel loved and make sure she knows that no matter what she is you sister and nothing could change that. Good luck Hun.

Both of my children were adopted from korea, and we get a lot of the same questions. Sometimes you can tell that people just don't know how to phrase things right like saying "where do you 'get' him from?", but we've also gotten a lot of inappropriate questions comments, especially when our kids are right there.
Sometimes I think people just don't think before they speak!

There are some people that don't realize they are being rude by asking these questions, so don't take it personally. You know the old expression: "Ignorance is bliss!" It's also like asking people, "How much do you earn?" I'll bet your sister is cute!

People are rude because their parents didn't teach them any better. The best response is, "That's actually a very rude question, but there's no price on the amount of love we have for her." Do not be afraid to say that they are being impolite. Just be sure to do it with a smile and in a respectful voice.
It's funny how some people think just because an adopted child is from China, but is 6 years old, that she probably doesn't understand English, although being raised in an English speaking household.

Social etiquette is a thing of the past it seems. Just respond with something like "I would appreciate if you didn't talk about my sister like she is not here." or just walk away. Remind your sister that she is loved and many people are just ignorant.
