How to go about finding my bio family?
Ok I am 14 and my mom told me when I was 13 that I was adopted. She said that my bio mom wanted me but she was abusive and was on drugs and alchohol she also had schizophrenia. So I had gotten taken away from her when I was 2 years old I haven't seen her since. I know she moved out of state somewhere and well my bio aunt lives somewhere not to far away from where I live. I do not know her name but I do know she is around here. Also I have a younger brother (whom I am living with now) and a younger brother and an older sister who I have not known. How do I go about finding them without my adoptive mom finding out (my adoptive mom gets really mad whenever I bring up my bio mom even when its in a mature way) she doesn't tell me anything about my bio parents and I get all the info i get from my grandma (not bio) who lives with us.

Real Moms Raise Their Children

You don't. =)

Why would you want to meet your bio mom after finding out she was on drugs and alcohol? Obviously, she did not respect you enough at the time to clean up. She just gave you away.

No reason to go looking for her now, especially when your adoptive parents have given you everything you needed and wanted.

But if you must look, go search myspace.com or facebook.com. I'm sure you'll find your mom there, doing the same ol', same ol'.

With out more info you can't find out anything. Legally the information is all sealed. You can ask mom to see your file. It should show everything. I have two adopted children, their mother was abusive and a drug user. I do send her pictures of the kids and letters but I don't let her have contact with them because it could be traumatic. But I always answer their questions. Except they don't know about the drugs because they are so young.

Im 23 now and I was adopted through a closed adoption a couple days after I was born. I OBSESSED over finding my mom from around 10 years old because with a closed adoption no contact is legally permitted until age 18. I obviously cant speak for you but the experience was totally crazy that I wouldnt have been ready until I was 18, and Im glad now it was like that. However if you were legally adopted in an open adoption, contact before 18 should be allowed. What really helped me when i was a teen was talking to my uncle about it. Anyone in your family who will be a little more understanding than mom? She might even open up a little more if she knows how much the issue affects you. Good luck and remember theres lots of us out there who have been through it and it only makes us stronger in the end. ps., its a sad fact that people who weren't adopted themselves can commiserate but never fully understand what its like, dont expect them too :)
