I think that you must mean expectant parents. Birth parents have already given their babies away and are through TPR. In that case, it is too late for you because someone else got the baby.
Pre-birth matching is inherently coercive and unethical. But I expect nothing more of Catholic Charities which is known for its strong-arm techniques for taking babies away from their mothers, ref. the Era of Mass Surrender.

Hasn't anybody told you a birth parent isn't a birth parent until the adoption is finalized and it is actually an offensive term IMHO.
That to one side each case is different.

We actually were not even looking to adopt when we were asked to adopt our son.
He was born very quickly and came home with us. We completed the home study when he was 1 year old (we focused on his health and emotional needs first) and had TPR when he was 18 months. It was when he was 20 months old that he was adopted.

Ours went very quickly. From the time our home study was completed until the time we became parents was about two months. I was in shock. I was expecting a few years, not a few months.
When our daughter's mother went to the agency she was already over 8 months pregnant. She gave birth and decided to place the baby for adoption a few weeks later. She asked to meet us based on our profile, but truthfully she didn't have many options. There weren't many approved couples open to a bi-racial child exposed to drugs.
Our daughter is now ten and she's healthy, feisty, smart, funny and has no lingering issues from her drug exposure. For us, keeping an open mind helped us become parents.
