How hard is adoption?
My husband and I would like to adopt a baby. How hard is this without it being so expensive just to get a baby.
Additional Details
we have no children and have been married for 10 years. I heard that it can cost more than 50,000.00. We don't have that kind of money, however we are very financially endowed enough to care for a child.

it usually all depends on the adoption agencies and where you're adopting from. my parents adopted 4 babies and if you think about it, it wasn't too expensive. if you want to keep it cheap stick to places within the country. a lot of times you'll have to travel yourself for the international adoptions and making everything legal in that country as well as your own. good luck

My aunt and uncle just adopted a baby and they spent thousands of dollars, however they did an open ended adoption with both of the birth parents and paid all medical expenses on their own.

It varies depending on location, etc. but is usually quite expensive. There are a few less expensive agencies through churches, or stuff like that. I also know that it is a lot less expensive to adopt sibling groups or special needs children who are in foster care! You can look at adoptUSkids.com to see some of them available. You might not be able to get a newborn that way, but it would be less expensive and you would have a child that really needed you. good luck.

Adoption is difficult for a reason, the agencies want to be able to insure the parents actually want the child and will be a good parent, granted this does not always work out, but think about if it was easy, anyone could adopt. Some countries make it easier, but no matter how you look at it there will be money involved unless you actually know the person giving up the child, then there will still be court costs.

I know a family in S GA that has adopted 2 babies. They went through family and children services. they really make you jump through hoops, like: take classes and home visits etc. this is an inexpensive way to adopt. There are plenty of babies and toddlers that need homes try your local area.

The thought of people worrying about money for adoption sickens me. No offense, I understand where you come from, but it makes it seem like you are trying to buy a child. I know that is not what you are doing, it just makes it seem like that. And from an adoptees point of view it makes me a little mad.

Im sorry to hear about your loss of your child. That is terrible and I know in this poor childs case adoption was definelty the best option.

I would look into adopting an older child if your looking for it to go quicker. I dont know much about it except for what my parents have told me about my sister and mines adoption. They spent a lot of money!

The older a child gets in foster care, the harder it is find a home for them. Why not give one of these kids a chance. Everyone is so conserned about having an infant, they forget there are so many kids in foster homes that can love you just as much if not more because they have been through the hardship of not having parents.

Its expensive because look who your competing against. Desperate people willing to shell out thousands of dollars to get their prize baby. The dumbest Ap I heard about got hustled out of $70,000.00 over a 10 month period. She made a complaint because the baby turned out to have severe medical issues probably from too thick of blood.

Adopting can be hard or easy. "Adoption" as an entire subject is impossibly hard...impossibly difficult...impossibly complex. And it is ever-changing. The phrase "...just to get a baby..." gives me chills. And NOT in a good way.

You don't JUST get a baby. It is a decision that requires time, patience, true devotion, TRUE selflessness...and LOTS of money. It can be less expensive (and less morally problematic) to adopt a child from foster care -- a child who truly NEEDS a home because the home of his/her natural parent/s is no longer available -- but even then there are pretty extensive costs involved.

This strikes me as a thought that has just now crossed your mind. Whoa! This is not a "Hey, let's get take-out for dinner tonight" kind of decision. If you are not willing to put real, actual effort (and time...and money) into something like creating a family, please let the thought drift out of your mind just as it drifted in...then go get some take out. Sheesh!

How hard is it for the CHILD?

The child would have to live with you, a stranger, and be forced to tell you (true or not) that they loooved you. Meanwhile, they'll always wonder for the rest of their lives where their real mommy and daddy are.

If you must adopt, adopt from foster care - those kids need homes. But remember, one ought not to use a child as a commodity or as a tool to heal their own pain of infertility. It is wrong to put that adult responsibility on an innocent child.

it is a long trip to start... and money to spend. do you want to adopt abroad ? some countries facilitate adoption. but you must count between 5 to 7 years (in land) and 2 years outside (foreign child) the cost are lower abroad (around 30 000 USD)you will have the temporaty custody of the child (12 month) and you must apply for citizenship as soon as the baby or child has been accepted as your lawfully child. but there is always a info to get on adoptees site...you must be ready to travel to meet the baby, to go more than one time before the temporaty papers, then there will be a local social investigation, trough the agency and the social services of your city or town... If you want to adopt you must have a strong a steady marriage. must be able to provide a descent life to the futur child and know what child do you want, agencies talk about, races, sex, disease or disability... you must be very patient, and full of LOVE a lot of LOVE to give! a lot of affection. more than if it were your own because that one was separated once, from his/her birth parent..his or her needs are greater.... it is a long long commitment... after... you have to think about talking about the adoption to the child... and you will have to deal with the stuff that will affect him or not... all depend on the child (some need to find their birth parent, some don't)
go to HOLT adoption and children service on the web. (type just HOLT children and you will find a lot of stuff....interresting... join also forums where adoptees, friends, family, parent of... and other related meet virtualy and exchange your point of vue. you can meet your local association of adoptees, meeting, dinner, dance... you can make new friends that can give you a real big help and can really answer to all your questions... GOOD LUCK
