Does it take a perfect world....?
Does it take a perfect world for adoption to be less of an option in our society?
Does it take a perfect world to honor the rights of the child and ( assuming the parents are fit, as most are! ) make it possible for the family to stay together?
Does it take a perfect world to give the children who need a home(foster care)one, and stop separating families that don't need to be separated(white newborn infant adoption industry)?
Does it take a perfect world to put the child first?

Yes, if you use birth control and plan on choosing to be a parent or not. It does not take a "perfect world to put the child[ren] first" EVER. That's the easy part, putting children first, ALWAYS.

This is a lovely poem. Thank you

However, unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world. Many parents due to addiction, and or mental illness , or extreme anger issues simply are not fit parents...and some truly do not want to be parents. I understand the tragedy of parents who lose children who want them, or who regret their choices. But I live in a world where children are often not put first and reunification is not possible, and where foster homes are not necessarily solutions. I wish it were a little more of a perfect world.

no, but it takes a perfect world to have a perfect adoption industry. In a perfect world, there would be no adoption, because women would get pregnant when they want to and not when they don't.

I think no matter how much reform is created, there is always going to be scandle. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't all work for it and do it TOGETHER, 'cause I think everyone wants to see change.

Obviously, Australia is a perfect world!

But sadly, the US culture is too self-centered for that kind of change to happen. Some people think we need to lobby government to change things, but until there is a huge CULTURAL shift in the ideology behind adoption, government will never go first before the people.

Until people stop coveting babies and thinking their own selfish desires come first, we'll never get there.

I totally see where this question is coming from

I can't tell you how often I've heard people say 'well the adoption system is not perfect' or 'in a perfect world' blah blah blah as an excuse for total apathy and reluctance to do anything to change things; but there does appear to be a huge resistance to change!

I can't figure out if people are just apathetic or they just don't care - it looks like in most cases it's like 'I've got my kid now, so it doesn't matter to me'

I so wish the child was put first, I really want to see that happen

not a perfect world no just decent people. my children come first to me. my world revolves around them.
i was adopted by my biological grandmother. she started the process when i was 6 months old it took her 4 years. so maybe a different system is needed. but there are good people out there who make a difference.

It does not take a perfect world but it certainly takes a different world than the one we now live.
