Why is California so mixed up?

Ok right now in California
it is against the law to talk on your cell phone and drive at the same time. HOWEVER!..it is not against the law to Text and drive at the same time. Now even though their getting the law passed to make texting illegal by next year I think. Wouldn't it of been wiser to get the texting made illegal first? At least with talking and driving your eyes are still on the road.

It seems that just about everything is backwards because I read that the California Public Utilities Commission banned texting on the job after an accident.........okay how about while driving ?????????

I live in ireland and your not allowed to do anything while driving except drive! I agree with what you say you would think they would ban texting first seems to more dangerous than talking, look at it this way at least you get good weather!!!!!!!!

It's silly that they have to pass a law for something that should be common sense. They passed the talking on the cell phone law before people could text on their phones.
People don't pay attention to the law anyway.
Does something have to be illegal for people to have the sense not to do something?

it's not just california...but anyways, when the law was introduced i was wondering why they didn't put texting first too..that's far more dangerous...who knows though...

You can still talk on your cell phone if you have a hands free device such as a blue tooth or what not, but there is an age restriction to the law as well, I'm not sure what it is.

This situation is not restricted to CA. But your question begs another question as to why should the government legislate something that we should be smart enough to do for ourselves? Is driving such an easy chore that we feel that we can multitask? I need to chat with my friends or professional associates because driving doesn't require any effort or thought. I mean, c'mon. I've been doing this for years. Besides, I can text with one hand and drive with the other. Nothing to it. And I've never had any problems before.
Is there a problem here?
