Car freak	Roundabouts are the toughest to handle because a car comes in and blocks your way to the exit. It is actually best if you hardly take the outside lane for going into the second exit. the moment you join the roundabout, quickly jump into the inside lane, so the outside lane/s are kept free for the people joining in. The moment someone joins in, allow him to come in front of you ( not if he is way back ) and shift to the ouside lane, with your indicator light well on and freely exit the turn. In a roundabout, speeds must be maintained around 20-30 mph. Thus the person who came infront of you was overspeeding. Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

jackie m	living in a town with lots of roundabouts its definitely the left lane - how did you pass your test if you dont know this, (left lane for turning left or going straight on) and as the 2nd cut off is classed as straight on then it must be the left lane. ben_m_g	Regardless of what exit it is you need to judge which lane by how far round the exit is. A good rule of thumb is anything past the 12 'o' clock position (stright ahead) you need to be in the right hand lane. Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

Joe Kool	A lot of drivers learned the old Highway code where it was optional to take the left or the right lane for straight on at a roundabout. Most won't have read the new one, expect the unexpected. Was this answer helpful to you? Yes / No

Bardic	There's a lot of rubbish talked about this, and a lot of drivers who don't understand how to treat a roundabout properly. The diagram in the highway code is just that, simply an illustration of a hypothetical layout. The proper way is to view the roundabout as a clock face; if the exit you want is beyond 12 o'clock (i.e. straight ahead)you use the right hand lane, otherwise the left. You can plan this from the layout sign you see approaching the roundabout. Of course, you still have to bear two things in mind, any specific directions given and other drivers' ineptitude. crazymental	well if you got in the right hand lane, would you be cutting anyone up in the left hand lane when you turn off for the second exit? unfortunately however well you drive and however careful you are, there is always gonna be some idiot who isnt careful and is a bad driver ready to do you in! you was right to stay in the left hand lane. monkeymoo	You're right, you should be using the left-hand lane to take the second exit (unless roadmarkings indicate otherwise). Stick to the 'rules of the road', even if others don't. You need to be careful because some drivers don't know proper procedures and some just don't care. Also be aware that a number of solo drivers have never taken a driving test, let alone passed it - so the chances of them having even heard of the Highway Code are remote.............. ChocLover	Left hand lane for 1st and 2nd exits, right hand lane for 3rd and 4th unless otherwise instructed before hand by road markings. There is a roundabout near where I live that makes you go in left hand lane for 1st exit and right hand lane for all others. Don't know why, there's a great big arrow in the right hand lane but there are still stupid idiots that ignore it and then give you rude hand signs when you end up cutting them up. philipscown	Check the highway code. Then ask yourself - "if there was an accident could the other person claim I was in the wrong place?". When you've been driving for a while you should look up the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motoring) - it's not as stuffy and full of old folk as you might think. WelshLad	I was always told, left hand lane (outside) for first and second exit. Right hand lane (inside) for third exit Also it's in the highway code book: http://www.highwaycode.gov.uk/17.htm#160 But unless there are markers on the road indicating what lane is what, then the above is the rule. anthony c	hay hunni dont worry at all there always diheads on the road i work on them and iam one of the guys who go out to clean them up when they have smashed there cars up, if you look at a round about imagine its like a clock like straight head is 12 oclock if the exit before that you use the left hand lane and if the exits are after the 12 oclock you use the right hand lane i learnt that in my advanced driven school , i wish you luck and you will meet those ** wipes who drive like idiots all the time becarefull enjoy the driven lol Was this answer helpful to you?
