They are both equally risky and bad.

Texting distracts the driver from the road and what could potentially be hazards. For instance they may not see a car ahead of them braking and getting ready to turn. Texting also makes you lose focus on the activity at hand, you'll have a harder time controling your speed and shifting gears. Its also a ticketabl offence in some states.

Speedings does not remove your focus on the road, but toys with your reaction times. You will have less time to respond to potential hazards in your way. Your fast moving car will require more stopping distance than a normal speed car, which means you have to press the brakes earlier. In some cases you can lose your car completely to a car crusher for speeding infront of the wrong officers.

Well from the latest surveys driver distraction ie: cell phones, talking with passengers, eating or grooming in the car has jumped passed speeding for the number of accidents.

Both are bad to do but it looks like people dont care....

texting is worse. It removes your focus from the road, which can be deadly in a split second. Most people pay more attention to the road when they are speeding so it is not as bad.

Texting. Because with texting, you're actually taking your eyes off the road for a good bit of time (to find the keys). With speeding, while it can be dangerous too, you at least keep your eyes on the road and can therefore respond to unpredictable traffic, etc. When texting you probably wouldn't even SEE the unpredictable traffic or the guy stopping in front of you or the kid walking out into the street, or whatever, to be able to respond.

Anything, anything at all, that takes your focus off the road, even for a moment, is the most dangerous thing you can do while driving.

texting
look at it this way car #1 is speeding going the average 10-15mph hour over. car #2 to is texting to his/her friend about their palns for the night. a 18 wheeler blows a tire slides and flips blocking of the highway. car #1 seeing this happens slams on the brakes and stops just avoiding disaster. car #2 still texting and his/her car on cruise control never sees it and smashes right into the overturned 18 wheeler. now car #2 is dead and assuming no exploding car #1 is alive

Texting while driving.

If I see you doing that, I will honestly flip you off, even if you don't see it. How dare you do something else while on the road!!!!

Lifes.Funny.
I must say speeding. I'm sure that speeding is up in the Top 3 of teen deaths. Although, I must say that texting while driving is a little stupid. xD

I think both of them are worse in a way.
Texting because you're not paying attention to the road.
Speeding because you're breaking the law and you could crash into someone and kill.

Texting by a long shot. I find it almost impossible to text and pay attention to the road at the same time. Speeding is not really so bad as long as it isn't excessive. Most speed related accidents are actually caused by someone going under the speed limit rater than over the speed limit.
