Indians, with one of the lowest automotive ownership in the world, have the most accidents:about one lakh killed every year, plus unknown number of mutilated, paralysed or wounded victims. It's a slaughter.Nobody seems to care,no belt,no helmet, let's have fun with our new toys!
I believe that people who can afford to fill up a tank with petrol, should be hit at the wallet:fines, confiscation of vehicules, increase of insurance premiums,etc... Serious offenders,hit-and-run cases should face a jail term.

stern, immediate and strict application of all the traffic rules by the traffic police without accepting corruption in any way.
also hike the fines by 100% for breaking traffic rules and give incentives to traffic police for implementing the rules.

According 2 me, indians truly follow when their close friends & people also follow . This turns up into a bigger circle of people following the rules. The question is tht the rules for traffic r laid but Indians r tempted 2 breach them iff there is no one 2 take care abt the strict following of rules.
According to me fines shld b collected
Even the hoardings meant for Traffic rules should'nt be misused for other purposes, this poses a hurdle in creating awareness among the Indians following the Traffic Rules.
Thanks

Best, but time taking solution is, population control (one or none per couple), less population, less traffic, easy control.
Quick solution: strick traffic police; with punishment as suspend the license for 3 months.

First of all, the condition of roads should be improved so that people are able to reach their destination on time.
Moreover, heavy fine or just putting them into jail, or taking away their vehicle can also work wonders to inculcate some road sense in Indians.

To follow the rules and to gain any sense should be taught in childhood schools and at homes by parents.
There should be easy and simple rules with tough punishments for violation UNLIKE in India where we have very complicated and tough rules(some date back to between 1801 to 1947 which were made by British to attain their motives) with little punishments actually equal to NIL sometimes.
For traffic rules first time violation should involve punishments second time heavy penalties and third the driving license should be cancelled. The driving license issue system should centralised and computerised so that license cannot be issued from any part of the country.
The traffic sense and for that reason any sense only GOD can help.

In India more people die or are disabled due to road accident than any other disease .This is because we lack civic sense and the authority is not keen to enforce rules. Violation of traffic rules are not taken seriously. In smaller towns there is no separate traffic personnel. Very rarely we find mobile traffic staff to deal with road congestion or vendors doing business on roads. Even cenema theaters and business establishments by the side of the roads create congestion. This should be adequately dealt with. Above all i would wish there must be adequate staff to deal with traffic violation.

sir, first of all traffic rules must be made to follow strictly by each citizen of India . They must be made to learn understand traffic rules and punished for breaking rules . Speed control and limits must be followed strictly . Traffic policemen who do not obsereve their duties sincerely must also be punished . Traffic rules must be followed by all whether person is walking by the road or pedestrians, or bikers or car drivers. No driving license should be issued to car drivers or bike owners unless they pass examination in traffice rules . The punishment must be given on the spot of where traffic rule broken either by making them do push ups or making them kneel down on pavement or making them to pay a fine may be token fine for first timers and heavy if repeated . A record of traffic rule breaking persons must be creeated and charge slips must be issued and parents guardian must be informed .

they should have loudspeakers at traffic lights, and people who cross the line, or don't have proper number plates, or have tinted glasses should be insulted in hindi. people who jump the red light should be fined. records should be kept of all offenders, and, habitual offenders should have theirs pics in newspapers, with some snide comments. they should also be made to do some cummunity service, like sweeping the roads, cleaning public toilets, and painting and building roads.

1) More Public Transportation facilities shd be provided ...caz its easy to make one bus driver to follow rules compared to all the 60 passengers following rules
2) There shd be cameras near big signal lights capturing pictures of violators and media shd print those pictures in special news columns
3) Traffic Police shd be well educated about the cons of correption and how they are becoming responsible for many accidents by accepting bribes
4) there shd be good ad campains like "Puli Raja AIDS campain" to bring awareness amonst ppl in sensible and effective way

We have to motivate to people about their safety only. If we put safety sense in their mind then no need of increment in traffic challan and punishment. We should make programmes or original advertisements in media on popular channels not only in DD metro or Delhi Doordashan coz no body use to watch these channels.

It is possible and only thing that can change the system is all of us. Specially students!
Why dont the youth participate in rallies on traffic awareness. We can all be volunteers.
Spend 2 hours on high street educating people over the weekend. Go to high schools and give a talk just after the morning prayers, remember they are the future drivers and mobile users!
Talk to drivers politely who honk unnecessarily.
Talk to your local traffic police department and flag up your concerns. If they dont take action, go to their higher officers.
Even if they dont listen, keep sending in innumerable number of complaints.
We can change and all it takes is vision, Education and sincerity.
Good luck!

Indians are follow traffic rules outside India, when they visit outside India, means public are not at fault, but rules in India are not strict and follow as it should follow, secondly for that purpose first of all in whole of India all traffic police staff must be replaced with retired Milatary jawans, who are sincere and getting pension and having regards for nation. Licence to every person should be given after five years after taking new test.

Start giving tickets to people who do not drive in lane and
who cuts off other drivers recklessly.
First they have to learn not honk the horn.In Shanghai China
they just started from June 1st no horn policy and it has reduce noise pollution and people are driving with more respect for other drivers. They also have separate lane for
bike and motor bike.

It is very well possible. One city at a time. I think it has started in many parts of India with the development of the new highways that require tolls. But any such major change must start from the top management/govt. May be they can begin from major metropolitan areas and then go on to smaller cities.
1. Better salaries for the traffic police so they aren't tempted to take bribe from traffic violators.
2. Better roads, better pedestrian walkways for the safety of drivers and public. Building better roads and designated pedestrian walkways would help tremendously. Govt. should spend tax money to renovate existing roads and building new infrastructure.
3. The punishments/fines should be logical and should be executed no matter what. Involve court if need be in case a violator wants to take the issue to the court.
4. The petrol/gas/fuel prices should be reduced because I’ve seen people driving wrong way to save fuel.
5. Required driving exams for licenses for different classes of vehicles. I am not sure whether there is something similar to the department of motor vehicles. I think there is definitely one that issues the drivers licenses. These people should come up with good written tests, and practical/behind the wheel exams that the motorists or drivers must take in order to get/renew their licenses.
6. Establish a minimum age for driving for different classes of vehicles.
7. Stricter rules for drivers and pedestrians (they shouldn’t be allowed to cross roads just anywhere but only at designated crossings)
8. There should be very strict rules for drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol. I have seen drivers getting away with murders when they ran over some pedestrian walking on the side of the road.
These are just some points to start with. There’s much more that can be done. The rules and regulations in other countries throughout the world should be taken into consideration to see which rules have worked so far and which rules haven’t. Learning from others' mistakes and not making the same ones would save a lot of time and energy. This would be a good place to begin.

We should be strict with traffic rules e.g. CAMERAS sould be installed on the peak points to keep a check on who breaks
traffic signals, speed limit boards and cameras should be installed near schools, public areas.
If a person tries to break any rule a fine of 5000 to 10000 should be taken from him or a ban on driving the vehicle for 6 months should be charged to the person.
AND THE PERSON WHO OVERTAKES FROM WRONG SIDE SHOULD BE FINED VERY HEAVILY OR JAILED OR A BAN OF 1 YEAR FOR DRIVING FROM WRONG SIDE.
THE BASICS ITSELF IS NOT CLEAR CLEAR IN INDIA PEOPLE JUST OVERTAKE FROM WRONG SIDE WHICH IS FOOLISH.
HEAVY TRUCKS WHICH RUN ON ROADS SHOULD BE RUN ON SPECIFIC TIMES LIKE 12 TO 4.00 IN THE AFTERNOON THEN MIDNIGHT12 TO 5.00 . IF U GO TO THANE (MUMBAI) THERE IS A PLACE CALLED GHODBUNDAR ROAD WHICH IS LOADED WITH SUCH HEAVY TRUCKS WHICH SHOULD BE BANNED ON RESIDENTIAL ROADS FOR A SPECIFIC TIMINGS.
WE SHOULD HAVE 3 TIER EXPRESS HIGHWAYS.
PRIVATISATION OF ROADS AND POLICE SHOULD BE
THE FIRST PRIORITY TO COME UP WITH THE CORRUPTION WE HAVE !!!

i think that any person who is caught driving rashly should have his license confiscated until the turns up at court with a letter from a government certified driving school saying that he has now learned how to drive properly. also he should be made to pay a huge fine and his name should be blacklisted.

1. Put Cameras on every major street,
2. End corruption in the Traffic Police Department so that the guilty are punished (end bribe taking)
3. Extensive public training seminars on road rules in their work places,
4. Get people to stop using cell phones while driving,
5. Stop drunk drivers
6. Put up signs at every place on the streets for directions and speed
7. Set up a plan to divert heavy traffic like commercial trucks and cross country travellors for alternate highway around cities and towns rather than through towns where they are an endangerment.
8. If roads are already conjested, try constructing flyovers.
9. Have the government paint the lanes on the streets and enforce the law through the training videos and commercials at work places.
10. Have signal lights at appropriate junctions and enforce the law strictly.

1.Well educate the children and general public the out come of traffic violations.
2.Using mass media to propagate the traffic rules and telecasting some of the tragic incidents which was fatal or crippled the subject.
3.Inculcate the feeling to be a responsible citizen.
4.Above all completely ban the heavy vehicles to use the road from 6am to 10 pm.
5.Ban on youngsters to be the lorry drivers.
6.Erection of sufficient over head bridges for the pedestrians to cross the roads at heavy traffic areas.
7.Broad road markings on the roads to point out the right ,left turnings,U turns ,ahead driving etc.
8.Moderate level of speed breakers with many lines just few metres before the turnings and cross roads which can awaken the sleepy drivers or the drivers on the mobile phones to indicate that dangerous zone or divert ion is ahead can help to reduce the speed and avoid the possibilities of many accidents.
9.Provide best roads with at least two lines of two way roads with continuous median.
10.Besides inculcate true consciousness to traffic police.Make them understand money is not everything. If they ignore faulty drivers today ,they themselves may be the victim of these drives someday.
