You don't make at least 80 percent then you fail..

Champagne 7 SUSPENDED AGAIN
You can have up to 15 minors, which could be hitting the kerb when parking etc. One dangerous and you will fail instantly. I failed on a dangerous on my first test because i left my indicator on a few seconds too long - madness!

It really depends on the examiner you have and what he constitutes a dangerous or minor.

It's not that simple.
Any 'dangerous' driving will result in instant failure - if it's serious enough, the test could end on the spot & the examiner will leave you & the car mid - test.
The question of 'minor' faults is more complex. You can fail on one specific minor fault if the examiner deems that it's something you are just unable to do - for example, stalling at a junction isn't a fail, but stalling at seven junctions in a row would constitute failing to meet the required standard.
The test assesses the overall standard of driving, it's not a 'scoresheet' whereby a cumulative score is kept.

15 minors

i passed my test a few days ago but i failed twice 1st time for going into the wrong lane and second time was cause i stalled on a roundabout

you are allowed 15 minor faults. these are faults that do not represent a danger to yourself or others, and 1 major mistake that does. I'm not sure what the majors are. I think failing to stop at a zebra crossing is one.

Some good answers here, here's a copy of the examiners sheet (DL25A). It will give you an idea of what he's looking for.

Goodness, what a lot of conflicting answers you're getting - especially the one suggesting that actually mounting the kerb when reversing is only a driving (minor) fault. It isn't - mounting the kerb in almost any circumstances is serious.

To try to simplify it: You are allowed 15 minor (or driving) errors on your test. The 16 one fails you. A minor driving error may be failing to check your interior mirror before slowing down. If, however, you get more than three minor errors in one discipline (say mirrors), that will be considered habitual and, therefore, becomes a serious fault.

One serious fault is a fail. For example changing lanes on a roundabout with no signal and causing others to slow down or change direction.

One dangerous is a fail. A typical dangerous would be where the examiner has had to use the dual controls to avoid a collision.

Hope this helps.

Most common minor faults:

Starting the engine
Some learner drivers start the engine in gear instead of neutral and this causes the vehicle to jump forward while others do not apply the handbrake properly and this sometimes causes the vehicle to roll backwards or forwards.

Moving away
It is very important to perform overall observations before moving away so that it is safe for you to proceed. Not looking around is considered a minor driving fault which could potentially become a serious one if you have moved away when it was unsafe to do so.

Emergency stop
When stopping the vehicle in an emergency, you need to do so promptly and fast. Using both the clutch and the footbrake is a mistake committed by a lot of learners. The examiner wants to see you keep control and not skid the vehicle while attempting to stop in the least time possible.

Turn in the road
When doing a turn in the road, learners fail to do all round observations to make sure it is safe to move the vehicle. If you are unable to complete the manoeuvre within 5 moves or touch the kerb during the exercise, it will be considered as a minor driving fault.

Reverse parking
The vehicle should not be too far from the left hand kerb or parked at an angle to the kerb after completing a reverse park. It is also important to look out of the rear window while reversing and pay attention to pedestrians when performing this manoeuvre.

Left/Right reverse
On completion of a left or right reverse, the vehicle should be parallel to the kerb and not too far from it. Touching the kerb or going over the centre of the side road or mounting the pavement will be considered a minor driving error.

Ancillary controls
It is important to operate the wipers if it is raining and the windscreen is getting blurry. Also the lights on the vehicle should be switched on if it starts to get dark otherwise it could be marked down on your driving test report.

Awareness
Showing an overall awareness of what is going around you while driving is what the driving examiner is looking for. You should always stay alert for hazards like pedestrians crossing the road unexpectedly. The overall practical driving test will test to see how well you react to other road users for eg whether you give way when required, whether you are telling other road users what you are doing by proper signaling or whether you understand and interpret correctly road markings and signals given to you by other driver.

DEFINITION OF DRIVING FAULTS - ASSESSMENT PARAMETERS

Fault identified – not worthy (not worthy of recording).
• Any insignificant deviation from the defined outcome that does not compromise safety or can be a matter of finesse. For example – Dry steering, sequential gear changes, not pressing the button on top of the handbrake when applying it.

Fault identified – Driving Fault – (not an immediate fail).
• Low Risk - Any sufficient deviation from the defined outcome that does not compromise safety, or can be a matter of control - to justify a fault being recorded.
• For example – the candidate took observation before emerging at the junction. However, they misjudged the distance of an approaching vehicle, causing it to slow down, safety was not compromised.
(Sixteen or more of these faults would result in failure of the test.)
There can however be occasions when one specific driving fault could by constant repetition, be regarded as serious and therefore a significant risk; for example when a candidate habitually fails to take mirror observation when appropriate.

Fault identified – Serious fault - (entails immediate failure)
• High Risk - Significant deviation from the defined outcome with safety, control and/or legal requirement breached
• For example – the candidate did not take effective observation before emerging at the junction, unaware of any other road user who may have been expected to be there.

Fault identified – Dangerous fault – (entails immediate fail).
• Actual Danger - Safety, control and/or legal requirement breached that would have caused actual danger
• For example – the candidate did not take effective observation before emerging at the junction completely misjudged both speed and distance of an approaching vehicle. The examiner had to take appropriate action to avoid a collision.
Examiners may have to take ‘action’ when it becomes necessary to do so in the interest of public safety, including their own and that of the candidate. Such intervention may be either - VERBAL (ETA-V) or PHYSICAL (ETA-P). (Straight from the DSA)

just wanna confirm what Britbloke says really.

Just incase you're interested below is the top ten reasons why people fail their driving test, taken from a recent driving instructor publication.

1 Observation at junctions (observation / judgement)
2 Reverse parking (observation / accuracy)
3 Use of mirrors (not checking / not acting on infomation)
4 Reversing around a corner (observation / accuracy)
5 Incorrect use of signals (not cancelling / misleading)
6 Moving away safely (observation)
7 Positioning on the road (roundabouts / bends)
8 Steering control (too early / too late)
9 Positioning to turn right (junctions / one way streets)
10 Speed (too slow / hesitant)

You shouldn't worry about what is a major or minor mistake - you should be trying not to make ANY mistakes!

You are allowed 15 minor mistakes - these are driving faults that are unlikely to cause serious trouble on the road.

You are not allowed to make any serious or dangerous faults. A serious fault is one that could lead to an accident, but you got lucky! A dangerous fault is a serious fault but you didn't get lucky - you will normally be saved by the examiner intervening to help you out to prevent a collision.

Basically you must not affect any other road users on your test. You could also have your test terminated "in the interests of public safety".

So as i said - try and aim for not making ANY mistakes, rather than worry about whats what.
