Should talking on cellphone while driving be banned?
I think it should and I also think it shouldn't. I mean when people get license its because they are responsible enough to drive. so, i dont know. you tell me

If there is a patition for banning cell phone use, I'll be at the top of the list. I've been hit multipul times by cell phone drivers. I work in a garage and I do a lot of driving pre/post work. I drive on average 150km/d excluding what I drive in my truck. I was on a test drive in a 2000 Audi A4 and I was hit by a woman who ran a red light on a turn signal and I hit the brakes, hit the horn, and tried to steer out of the way. still didn't work, I hit her right on the front fender of the passenger side. Her Esclade was a write off, and so was the Audi. Turns out, it does not run through the shop insurance, it runs through the vehicle owners insurance. So the guy with the Audi, was out a car, (only being paid for insurance, half of what it was worth) and the lady in the Esclade missed her phone call. The shop ended up getting sued by the guy and we, in turn, ended up sueing the lady who I hit. We won, the guy got a new Audi A4 and the woman was out her Caddi. This whole time took about 8 months, and was a mojor headache. If she was paying attention to the road. I would not have hit her when she ran the red, right in front of me, and the Audi owner and the woman would not be out thier vehicles, and she wouldn't have been out the costs of my pay for 3 weeks, I had no major injury, but my hands were bursed badly, same with my wrists and my neck and back. I still see the chiropractor on a regular basis, and she continues to pay for the sessions. It was not worth the conversation. I hit her doing about 50km/h after I hit the brakes, I was doing 60km when I hit the brakes. The Audi owner, who was a very good customer of ours, will not come back to the shop because of it. It cost us more then the price of the lawsutes, it cost the shop thousands of dollars with me being out of commission, it cost the shop a very good customer, and it destroyed my reputation in the automall I work at (which I have had to slowly rebuild, and i'm still not there). That was the one that cost me the most. I've been rear ended, and side swiped in my old car a few times by cell phone drivers.

drivers should be required to pass a coordination test. if you can use a hands free device, chew gum, walk and do a jigsaw puzzle you should be granted the hands free cell phone permit

Yes, it's a distraction from your attention to driving............and sometimes you get into a detailed conversation and forget what you are doing...........for example, try watching your favorite television show, talking on the phone and doing your homework or writing a note.............something or all will suffer, right?
Just makes sense

>>Yes!! That drives me crazy. At least once a day I am behind some idiot talking on the phone going 10 miles under the speed limit and then if I try to go around them they get MAD AT ME!! Idiots! I think it should be against the law UNLESS it is hands free. And if they are caught, there should be huge fines

Yes..... too many accidents waiting to happen.. when you are on a cell phone (it dont matter who YOU are) you are distracted by the person on other line.. dont tell me you mind is on the road.. cause its not.. our brains cant do several things at the same time.. which is talk on cellphone, drive and eat food.. i see so many people trying to drive, smoke, eat, drink sodas and drive at the same time.. how can you drive with the phone in your left/right hand and your other hand on steering wheel and in between eat your food.. forget it you cant without coming close to hitting someone.. You mind is on food, the conversation and trying to drive.. BAN CELL PHONES>. that includes earphones or Bluetooth,.. cause you still have you mind on that phone instead of the road...

Probably--but without strict enforcement (ie, imposition of fines), people would still do it.

If you have to talk on the phone you should pull over and talk, I couldn't believe it the other day as I was driving, I'll bet 8 out of 10 cars that passed me the people were talking on their cell phone, it's getting crazy!, it's proven that it takes the same side of your brain to talk on the cell phone as it does to drive and you can't do either properly when your trying to do both.

Oh yes, should it ever be.
Just 2 months ago, I was riding in a taxi, and the driver was fumbling around with his cell phone, and actually went over the curb and across the lawn of a house there. I had to demand that he concentrated on the driving for which I was actually paying him.

There are people who are using their cell phone responsibly, but it is impossible to separate the idiots from the responsible ones, so the law should apply evenly to everyone. When you drive, you don't phone.

The Mythbusters also showed that speaking on a cell phone make a driver less capable of controlling their car than being legally drunk. And we all know how dangerous drunk drivers can be.

People on cell phones while driving (actually not driving) really P me off. I have been stuck behind and around so many inconsiderate cell phone users !!! AARGHH!
I wish I could use Ventriloquism to actually tell them what I think!!

My kid's laugh at me when I yell at other drivers (knowing they can not hear me)

If I could actually Throw my voice into the cars of Bad Drivers using cell phones.. .
Hey Idiot "Shut up, Hang up and DRIVE!!!

The same goes for the STUPID people that sit at a green light or drive in traffic putting on their Make-up!!! Get out of bed a few minutes earlier and save some lives.

Driving while on the cell phone should definitely be banned and enforced diligently. It doesn't matter how much experience a person has driving, it is a distraction and it has been proven over and over again to cause accidents.

In my state the law is both hands must be on the wheel. So, indirectly it is the law already. People are not always paying attention if they are using a cell phone so it should be banned unless you are wearing a head set.

Was this answer helpful to you?  Yes  /  No

Who, me?
It ought to be, unless the driver has a valid reason for doing so(emergency and so forth).

Too many accidents occur because of such an action. This is because most people can't concentrate on more than a few tasks at a time. And even though many claim they can, studies have indicated that they often can't.

YES! Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes! I walk my kids to and from school several times a day, and I have seen WAYYY to many close calls in that short walk(not to mention when we are out and about for other things), and most of the time someone has had a phone glued to their head. Tsk, tsk!

Yesterday while driving down a busy highway, a woman cut right in front of us trying to get to the turn lane....we gave her the look and she was busy chatting away, while trying to hide her face from us...she did not even look when she crossed over in our lane...some people clearly can not drive and talk at the same time...
