They still make you parallel park?
Most people can get it on their first try, but it's not uncommon to fail a few times.

Don't worry about it! Very few people pass their license test the first time, including myself (it's pretty easy to fail because you are nervous, and you desperately want the freedom and convenience of being able to drive a car). I failed the first time because I didn't parallel park properly, but I got it the second time around. It just takes a bit of experience to realize what to do in any given situation on the road. Just practice a bit more, and you'll do fine on your next attempt! :)

I failed first time too..so many people do, don't worry. The advantage is that you know what to expect in the test next time. Just keep practising on the routes..keep in mind all you've studied and prepared so they'll be fresh in your mind next time..I'm sure you'll be just fine. I firmly believe that anyone who has failed a test automatically will become a better driver for it because of the extra preparation.

Don't worry about it. Lots of people fail their first test. I failed mine because I couldn't parallel park my mom's huge boat of a car. Try not to be so nervous the next time (I know, easy to say). It'll all work out. Just look at some of the total idiots who got their licenses, and you know you'll be able to get yours.

You contradicted yourself. Did you pull out or not? Did you see the car or not? You said you did not see it, but you stopped before the intervention...well then you DID see it...right?
It seems to me that what you did was to start out and then see the car. You turned your head...but not because you were looking, but because it is the thing you're "supposed to do". The intervention is justified as the examiner would have been looking the whole time and would not say to stop until there was no alternative. Did you stop because you were alert, or did you stop because she told you to but your brain tells you that you were first in reacting? Why do we look first? -To make sure you don't get into a situation where you're halfway out and having to put on the brakes suddenly!
Don't blame others for your failure....you'll pass when you show good judgement. Be more mature about this...being depressed won't solve anything...using this as a learning experience will! That sounds like a great examiner...I hope you listened to any advice she gave at the end of the test!

As you can see from reading all of your answers, MANY people have failed their first driving test.
Many people get hit because they didn't see something.
You'll be driving soon, once you pass your test, and please remember that anything can happen at any time!
Just go back and give it another try.
Your Examiner's job is to keep you safe. She has a licence and you don't YET. She has experience in driving and took control of that situation.
Luck is when preparation meets opportunity, so.......
GOOD LUCK!

I only know a few people who HAVE passed the first time. You're really nervous and don't know what to expect the first time through. The second time you're still nervous, but you know a little of what to expect. You'll do fine the second time, everyone I know that didn't pass the first time passed the second time. =) Good luck!

Failed the first - skidded down the road on the emergency stop; Failed the second - hit the kerb and was too shaken up to continue so walked back to the test centre; Failed the third - didn't use mirrors enough when changing lanes. I passed the fourth time though! Not passing first time definitely makes you a better driver in the long run! Better luck next time. x

Heya,
If it makes you feel any better, I have failed my car theory assesment twice, and passed on the third attempt.
[I have not taken practical yet]
The assesment sheet decides whether it is a pass or not, the examiner can't really decide, not if theyre doing their job properly.
There are minor faults, serious and dangerous.
That must have been marked down as either serious or dangerous. But If you don't record either types, you will pass. (Unless 16 minor faults are recorded)
When I first learnt to drive, I kept looking Only right, instead of left, and my instructor obviously corrected me right away. I tend you have improved perception skills now.
I Hope you Pass next time.
The best of Luck.

Remember, you don't really start learning until youv'e passed your test.
This is the problem with the UK test, many people think that once they have their licence they are invincible, pass the test in a 1.0 Corsa and think they can handle a 2.0car twice its size.
Take your failure as a good opportunity to get some more practice before being let loose with all the other nutters who think they can drive!
I took lessons in snow, ice, hellish rain and fog and boy they all teach you things you need to know but don't get taught.

So you looked left, didn't see the car, and pulled out.
Sounds like driving without due care and attention to me.
Contrary to all belief this is not a game, and a lot of the better drivers fail first time and take advice to improve.
You'll be ok next time.

If you didn't see the vehicle in the road...you didn't look effectively....you need to check each side more than once and check properly. If an examiner does not think you have looked AND seen.....they will have to intervene for saftey reasons. Learn from the mistake. If you are not sure whats there or how fast or how near....don't go and check again. Book another test and have a few more lessons to give you more practice & experience.

Hi! Don't fret, I failed the first time around to. I didn't reduce my speed when I came off an 'A' road into an exit. In the end the examiner said, "don't you think you should slow down a bit?" so by then I knew it was game over. Look don't worry, there are people that have failed their test 20+ times. Book your tests again, you'll be fine next time
