How do I stop this drunk driver?
I know someone who will stop home in the middle of the day, have a couple of glasses of brandy, and then drive back to work. I believe that he is an alcoholic, but the real problem is that he could seriously hurt himself or someone else while driving drunk.

I've mentioned this to him, and he refuses to listen, saying that he can drive just fine.

I'm wondering if there is some sort of method of tipping off the police, or if I should just wait until they inevitably catch him. I feel as though I have an obligation, since I know about the problem, to try to do something about it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Admirable but, you might be surprised how many people have two drinks or several beers and drive. Doesn't make it right but, you may not get much help from the LEOs on this info.

if you can take the keys. If you can't take the keys alert the police.

88 keys,10 fingers.
I'd tell the police about the problem, or some sheriffs you see around. I wouldn't call 911. But you can call the country sheriff and find that number. Idk if the operator has it. Because that's very dangerous and he's in denial.

If you know when and where he drinks let it be known to the authorities. He evidently won't stop on his own.

Well obviously he is in denial because he doesn't want to stop. There has to be a main reason for him drinking which seems like it comes from too much stress. He is dealing with all this stress by numbing his feelings towards it and that is why he isn't willing to stop. The police could help, but I think he needs more than that. Possibly a therapist or someone to talk to. Also if you know where he works, you could talk to his boss about this and explain that you think he is under too much stress which is causing him to drink and you fear for his life and others. So I would call around and see what you can come up with.

Tell the police what you know as soon as you can.

A drunk driver WILL eventually hurt someone.

That much booze is legally drunk. Call 911 and give them a plate number and direction they are taking

You can give the Police his registration, and the time he is usually on the road. You could also warn him that his employer might fire him if he keeps turning up drunk after lunch, it is definitely a work OH&S issue.

what you do is you call the police on him, being that you don't know for sure I don't think they can act on it. Unless you can prove it.

If you feel that strongly about it and you're sure he drinks at lunch everyday, perhaps you can call the police department and give them his address and his license plate number and let them take it from there. You're doing a really good thing. He could wipe out an entire family on his way back from work and you sure don't want that on your conscience!

That sounds like alcoholic behavior. I would think that he is more likely to have trouble at his job than with driving or the cops.

Crazy a girl, I suggest that you stop by the police station and tell them what is going on. They will do what is necessary to be done. This is what any citizen should do when faced with this problem.

Dan

phone crimestoppers or your local equivalent.

they should sort it. you won't be using up emergency police time, but making the roads safer for everyone.

you don't even have to give them your name when you phone.

they will probably get the police to wait around the corner (if you know which way he goes to work, it would help), then they pull him over while he is driving and breathalyse him.

good luck.

Bring it to the bosses attention. Many times drinking while on the job - even if at lunch, is against company policy. If he falls down geting out of his car after lunch, that could result in a workers comp claim. For liability purposes, most people don't realize a worker is covered going from their home to work, and back, and anywhere else to and from lunch - even if "off the clock".
