Timincal	Mostly all of the above. But what most people don't know is in most states in the U.S. it is illegal to operate a vehicle with a crack in the windshield that may block a drivers view of the road. That said, a windshield is NOT required for the safe operation of a vehicle. So if you ever get a crack in the windshield of your vehicle and you don't want a ticket, knock it out! Lately, it also provides a surface to mount the inside rearview mirror and GM used it for a place to hide the radio antenna. It also gives windshield repair shops job security.
