Numerous safety features have been built into cars for years, some for the safety of car's occupants only, some for the safety of others.

Asker, you're the world's biggest optimist, to expect anyone to go to the trouble of answering that convoluted question. But to put the answer briefly, just consider the effect of a moving vehicle striking a human body. Multiply that by 4 billion, the world's population, and you have a concise answer.
